San Pedro, CA – Okay, it’s time to head to the beach! San Pedro is a popular thoroughfare to Catalina Island. One of the west coasts many Channel Islands, Catalina is famous for silvery-gray beaches and dense, unassailable forests. San Francisco

Go even further north of Los Angeles and you’ll reach a magnificent city with a vibe all its own. Like Los Angeles, you’ll need a well-formulated plan to see even half of what you want to see, but the trip is well worth it.

Although not located near the local airport, a great district to stay in town is Fisherman’s Wharf, because unlike Los Angeles, San Francisco is reasonably easy to experience without a car. In fact, depending on your fortitude behind the wheel, it could be much easier to just go without. By staying in Fisherman’s Wharf, the city’s most popular tourist destination, you’re able to walk quickly to some the area’s most notable attractions including Pier 39, China Town, Union Square, the financial district, and countless museums. Best yet, the world-famous cable car service runs through the center of Fisherman’s Wharf, offering you fun, if not quick, transportation to other attractions.

If you’re a seafood fan, be sure to pick one of the Wharf’s restaurants on the bay. It’s some of the best you’ll find in the country.

South of Los Angeles

Dana Point, CA – Although the region has been a beachfront paradise for as long as humans have settled here, the communities around Dana Point and Laguna Beach have come into highest prominence recently thanks to television. Although known for golfing, exquisite shopping, and generally displaying the very peaks of the highlife, Dana Point and its surrounding beaches are actually one of the surfing capitals of the country. Home of the infamous “Killer Dana” wave until harbor construction interfered, local Doheny Beach offers a challenge to surfers of any skill level.
